The Book Federation of Cambodia

About The Federation

Cambodia has one of the lowest literacy rates in Asia. It is often mislabeled as a country which has no 'real' publishing industry. When more closely examined, one can see it is a country that is undergoing rapid change, and hungry for information and materials to read.

In March 2002, a research project called 'Publishing in Cambodia' was undertaken by Reyum Institute and the Center for Khmer Studies, with the support of The Toyota Foundation and Centre Culturel Franšais. Following the publication of its report and two workshops, a volunteer group assembled to address the needs for an organization addressing overall issues of literacy and publishing.

The Federation was registered with the Ministry of Interior in October, 2004. It is a locally registered non-profit organization which has no political or religious affiliations.
